Male Christmas Guide 2016 // Lucyy Writes

Why are men so difficult to buy for? Each year still remains a struggle, not wanting to be a bore by sticking to the same old type of presents & don't even get me started on Secret Santa's. Despite the unwritten rule of December - not to buy much or anything at all, they still go on ordering oblivious to the fact you may have wanted to get them similar for Christmas. If you too have a difficult male to buy for hopefully something below will be the perfect fit & you can always check out my 2015 Christmas Male Gift Guide here for a little extra help.

Firstly you can't go wrong with a whole load of chocolate to fill the stockings or make a gift up. Here I have a giant chocolate coin, American sweet treats, terry's chocolate orange, novelty Christmas puddings & of course the king of all chocolates - Monty Bojangles - which are 3 for 2 this year in Boots. You seriously need to try them. Amazing.

Fragrance wise, it's all about Chanel Bleu, it smells incredible & who wouldn't love to see this under their tree feat Chanel's beautiful wrapping. Boots have been incredible for offers this year fragrance wise. Following on with the 'beauty' topic, we have the incredible magnesium spray by Better You both myself and my Dad swear by for aches & pains, only this time in miniature form and in sensitive. This is to go in my Dad's stocking as a little extra, along with the Amaretto Lip Balm from Crazy Rumours. Both can be found in Holland & Barrett's.

Fashion wise, men can be blooming hard! Here I have a leather travel bag from Jasper Conran found in Debenham's. This is pricey but again with the recent deals if you have someone who travels a lot with work it's a great gift - plus if they're visiting for the holidays they can take their stuff home without the hassle of extra bags. You can't have Christmas without a novelty tee whether it's sleeping off one too many drinks OR for Christmas PJ's. I picked up the fabulous instagram themed ELF t-shirt in Matalan but Elf merchandise is everywhere this year. Other gifts to keep in mind are just some basics like the Armani t-shirts my Dad is obsessed with. I gave him a pack last year, he wears them underneath so much & this was probably the only thing he asked for this year - though he's got a whole tonne of stuff to make up for working all day Christmas Day and Boxing day.

I feel like food is always a good topic to head to for guys, Nando's always have great gift sets to keep in mind - with incredible offers in a lot of stores. Here I have their hottest selection, perfect for my friend who loves both nandos, hot food and a long running joke I won't get into. Again, fun mugs are always something to look out for, especially for office secret Santa's. I now have the tradition of picking out a 'heat changing' mug for my brother each year, I've so far done Pacman, Tetris and maybe another but this year I've gone for the classic Harry Potter. Also, mug and cup wise, we have the Cup & Saucer set* from I Just Love It featured in my last blog post.

Tech wise, depending on your budget there's a tablet out there for everyone. However we all have enough tech and apple products in our household and so this year the Kindle Fire takes the hot spot in which we've purchased for my Grandad. He'd taken over my Grandmas Samsung Tablet but he definitely doesn't get along with it. Here's to hoping that his use of a paper white and the previous tablet will make this a breeze for him.
an image of Male Christmas Guide 2016
And lastly, one item that's been purchased not once, but three times in our household for various people this Christmas....the official Emoji Card Game. There are so many Emoji games out there, this one in my opinion seems to be the best & selling out fast. I've had this for a month or so, where Next were the only stockist not charging an extortionate amount for it. If you're looking for a secret Santa, difficult friend or some fun after Christmas dinner this is the one.

Are you too struggling on what to buy for the males in your life this Christmas? Lucy xx

Personalise Christmas with I Just Love It

Can anyone tell me where the rest of December went? Time is flying by, especially when you're behind on your gift guides, though thanks to speedy shipping there's still plenty of time to turn last minute gifts into something a little more special. I've teamed up with I Just Love It, the Aladdin's Cave of personalised gifts, to bring you my top picks whether it be for the festive season or perhaps a little treat for yourself.

an image of Christmas with I Just Love It
The first item to catch my eye was the Personalised Christmas Cake Tin (which you may have seen on my Instagram Stories). If you've followed my blog for a number of years you'll know I love to bake and can't wait to spend the majority of next week baking sweet for all my family and close friends. Measuring 18.5cm by 18.5cm, the tin is still perfectly sized for filling with treats for a loved one. The tin can be personalised with any message of your choice, this tin has three lines for you to fill. I decided to follow suit to the picture on site by adding the family surname, though ditching the established year and mince pie banner for something more suited. We're all a big fan of the simple white design, holly leaf and bold black text. When I spotted this tin I just knew it had to feature on LW, whilst the tin is smaller than every other tin I have in the house, it's the perfect size for one particular item I bake religiously when it comes to special occasions - my ultra cheesy, chorizo pastry's. I'll be sending my Dad off to work on Christmas Day with this festive tin now that his colleague is obsessed with them as much as we all are. The guys have gotta be treated well when they're to work 12 hour shifts all over Christmas. Whilst I may be later sharing the tin on LW, there are still OTHER regular tins which may be better suited for gifting available on the site, whether it be Christmas & Birthdays. At £19.99 the tin is certainly more than your regular tin, but this is something I'll be excited to pull out year after year.

Another item I was very lucky enough to receive which you'll see cropping up on LW & have seen on Instagram Stories, is my very own Christmas Engraved Spoon. This retails for £6.99, though if you've missed the shipping date you'll be pleased to know that you can also buy regular versions of engraved spoons - perhaps a better idea so you're loved one can use it all year round. The spoons engraving is some of the best I've seen, there's no way this spoon will be ruined. Made from high quality beechwood this is the perfect gift for a budding baker.
an image of I just love it Christmas wooden spoon
an image of Christmas with I Just Love It cup and saucer
My last item I can't stop raving about is this Monogrammed Cup & Saucer, in which I've used my Grandad's initials as a little extra for him. He insists on drinking coffee out of a tea cup, even if the mug is fine china, it has to be a tea cup. The quality again is superb, whether it be the cup, saucer or the printing. There's not a single fault. The Cup and Saucer are fine china, dish washer safe and can have up to three initials incorporated into the design. This would be a great gift to keep in mind for up-coming birthdays, house warming & more. With Urgent Delivery, there's still time to have one whipped up, not to mention still an incredible amount of gifts on offer from I Just Love It.

Have you heard of I Just Love It? I can't recommend checking out the site enough, the selection of gifts, not to mention the quality and speed of all personalisation is fantastic. Lucy xxx

Lush // Yog Log Roulade review

One thing you may find hard to believe is that for the majority of this year I've actually used far more shower products from Lush than I have enjoyed a relaxing soak with a bath bomb or two. With the current festive line, heading into it's final month I thought it was about time I share my love for this years new addition Yog Log Roulade (£5.95 per 100g).
an image of Lush Yog Log Shower Roulade
For those who aren't familiar with Lush's Shower Roulades, they reside in the shower smoothie and conditioner range though instead of being a thick cream packaged in a famous black pot, you buy this product by the slice. You use a Roulade in the same way as soap, create a thick, creamy lather before rinsing. Though with a Roulade/Shower Smoothie you save on the need to moisturise after your bath/shower. There has been a number of Roulades since the big Oxford Street launch, as well as last years festive roulade (The Icing on the Cake review here).  I absolutely loved last years festive Roulade, so hearing Lush would be launching one in my favourite scent (Yog Nog) I couldn't wait to jump into the shower.
an image of Lush Yog Log Shower Roulade
As mentioned Yog Log uses the mouth watering scent of Yog Nog soap & bath bomb. The overall fragrance is a comforting Caramel & Toffee followed by the warmth of Clove Oil & delicate Ylang Ylang. The Roulade itself is packed with Cocoa Butter and Coconut Oil, whilst the 'rind' of the product uses Fresh Honeydew Melon Pulp. I have to say this years Roulades really have improved, the texture is softer without falling apart or turning into a big squidgy mess. The rind has also improved, it really holds the product together and dissolves along with the product. Value for money I purchased a 100g bar which was used most mornings, this lasted for 2-3 weeks. I didn't experience any drying of the skin, neither did my skin feel sticky. Previous Smoothies have left my skin with a residue rather than hydrating. I'm pleased to report Yog Log Roulade left my skin feeling incredibly clean, hydrated and scented with the absolutely incredible Yog Nog scent I adore so much. If you're looking for a shower product that's a little out of the ordinary to brighten these freezing winter mornings, or perhaps as a Secret Santa or Stocking Filler Yog Log is the product for the job.
Have you tried any of this years festive line up yet? What's on your Christmas list? Lucy x

Blogmas 2016 // Aspire Drinks review

Happy December 1st! I can't believe how fast December has crept upon us. Whilst I've been pretty quiet on LW recently I'm hoping to jump right back into things, because we all know how much I live for Christmas. I'll be sharing the best of the best, gift guides and product reviews, not forgetting... my annual Christmas Lush Dupes. Today however I'm sharing two tea based drinks from Aspire, perfect for the times you can't have a festive tipple.
an image of aspire drinks
As someone who loves finding new cold tea brands, I hadn't stumbled across Aspire drinks before despite them being available from selected supermarkets, Holland & Barrett and Amazon. Aspire Drinks are classed as a healthy energy drink, being green tea based and each of the three flavours available being free from sugar, calories & carbs. These deliciously refreshing drinks are sparkling based, a healthier alternative to some of your regular fizzy drinks on the market & a hell of a lot healthier than the alcoholic drinks poured this festive season.
an image of aspire drinks
One of the easiest ways to improve your diet/health can be as simple as replacing your regular fizzy drinks, with a healthier alternative like Aspire Drinks to avoid all the hidden sugar content. With three fruity flavours, each has been designed to avoid the daily sugar crash delivering a taste sensation of either Cranberry, Apple & Acai OR Mango Lemonade, all in 250ml (£1.85) cans - perfect for on the go, whether it's last minute Christmas Shopping, helping towards the New Years Resolution or for the designated driver.
an image of aspire drinks
Out of the two flavours sent (Apple + Acai as well as Cranberry), I have to say my favourite was surprisingly Cranberry. I always avoid cranberry based drinks, yet this just didn't seem so bad, perhaps this is down to the sparkling side of the drinks. Both drinks are red, exceptionally bubbly & brilliant for those who can't enjoy an alcoholic drink over the festive period and don't want to feel left out. Nobody would know the difference when comparing glasses. What are your go to non-alcoholic drinks for the party season? Lucy x

Philip Kingsley // Christmas Treasure Hunt 2016

With Christmas soon to be upon us, I mean how are we already half way through November!? today I'm sharing details of the fantastic Christmas Treasure Hunt from hair brand Philip Kingsley. I absolutely love it when brands get into the festive spirit with fun competitions and this one is no different.

Having already started November 10th, Philip Kingsley are running their Treasure Hunt for an entire month, where entrants can follow clues to lead them to the hidden treasure. Where are the clues you ask? Head on over to the Philip Kingsley Instagram (philip_kingsley), where each week two hair fact clues will be revealed, ready for you guys to head on over to the Hair Guide section on the Philip Kingsley website. Once on the right page, you'll be able to enter your details to become part of the fantastic prize draw to win a luxury hair and skincare kit full to the brim of goodies from Philip Kingsley AND Sarah Chapman.

Here I have two of Philip Kingsley's most iconic products, the first being The Elasticizer* which was created for no other than Audrey Hepburn, almost 40 years ago as the worlds first pre-shampoo treatment and designed to provide elasticity, bounce, shine and UV protection. There's no doubt this hero product will be appearing in the wonderful kit up for grabs. Joining alongside the Elasticizer, Maximizer*, the hair thickening spray is the ultimate styling product for thin, limp hair. Personally I've not heard much about this product though I honestly can't wait to try this one out for myself now that I've a full fringe that needs a little more control come the colder winter mornings - my hair just loves to frizz. Are you a fan of the brand? Will you be taking part in the Christmas Treasure Hunt? Lucy

Lush Christmas Haul 2016 // Lucyy Writes

an image of Lush Christmas Haul 2016
It's been awhile since I last updated LW, there's a lot to fill you guys in on but first, I obviously couldn't return without a festive Lush Haul. It's been a while since I last shopped in Lush - my birthday in fact. Usually I place a couple orders online with Lush once the festive line has launched, this year however a few products I really wanted to try were unavailable.

With cars in for servicing and plenty of time to kill on Thursday we decided to take the dogs (now that Mollie has recovered) to the beautiful park near us & then onto Lush to grab some goodies, which turned out to maybe not be such a good idea when Mollie hates shopping whilst Harry loves it. For once I don't think I went too crazy, especially when this one haul is shared between myself AND my mum (most bath bombs are duplicated). I'm yet to use any of the bath bombs, though I've been using the shower products every single day whilst I use up some of my older pieces of Lush.

First to hit the basket was this years remodel of Shoot for the Stars Bath Bomb (£4.25), I'll be honest I much prefer the old design but I'm sure the new blue bath bomb will make waters beautiful teamed with the golden star melts. If you're looking for a bath bomb that isn't overly festive or spicy Shoot For The Stars is for you with it's honey/toffee & bergamot scent. New comer Mistletoe Bath Bomb (£4.25) was a must after seeing multiple demos of this bath bomb. If you like the jasmine scents of Silky Underwear & Sex Bomb bath bomb you'll enjoy using this one. Another new bath bomb to catch my eye was Never Mind the Ballistic (£4.25) which has been half dipped into Cocoa Butter to provide a highly moisturising and citrus scented bath. Returning again, Star Dust Bath Bomb (£2.95) also entered our basket, if you're a fan of Butter Ball & Butter Bear you'll love Star Dust's Vanilla, Rosewood & Bergamot fragrance, with a hidden surprise centre. With a fair amount of Christmas Bubble Bars hanging around at home still only Snowie Bubble Bar (£4.25) came home, who I can't wait to use.

Bath Products aside there were plenty of Shower Products that I wanted to try, with both Christmas Roulades being purchased. If you've shopped at Lush for the last couple of years you'll be familiar with Yog Nog, a nutmeg and toffee fragrance which came as a soap, followed by a bath bomb. Sadly they didn't return this year though they have made the addictive scent into Yog Nog Roulade (£5.95 100g) If you haven't already, I urge you to try, I've used this bar every single day since. Candy Cane Roulade (£5.95 100g) has a minty fragrance, more pleasant than the Dirty range from Lush. A product A LOT of Lush fans will be pleased to see back is Lord of Misrule Shower Cream (£4.95), we picked up the small 100g bottle for now, having stocked up heavily on previous festive shower gels. A 1KG bottle will be going on my Christmas List this year however. You can find my review of Lord of Misrule bath bomb here, I don't think the Shower Cream managed a review last year!? Lastly, as huge Snow Fairy fans, Snow Fairy Fun (£5.95)  HAD to come home. The bar is covered in lustre, smells divine and comes with paper decorations to get modelling before lathering up.
What have you picked up so far this festive season in Lush? PLUS what products would you like to see reviewed first. Lucy xx

My 22nd Birthday Haul // Lucyy Writes

an image of What I had for my 22nd Birthday Haul
I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 22. Last Friday I celebrated my 22nd Birthday & boy do I feel old - thank god for being blessed with a baby face. Time is flying by so fast, it only feels 5 minutes since I was rambling on about entering my 20's. I wasn't sure what was going to happen on my 'big' day, since I've a little West Highlander at home recovering from a Hip Replacement. However my family made sure I had a lovely day, one of my favourites in a long time. I was able to head out for a girls shopping trip. With the incredible weather, we made sure to grab picnic food from M&S and head to the beautiful park I love. The journey home however took 2 hours!? When it would usually take 30 minutes at the busiest of times. Once home I was greeted by my furry friends who for once missed me and had the loveliest of evenings with my little family, consisting of WAY too much food and the largest chocolate cake we could find - not to mention the delicious white chocolate and strawberry cake we'd demolished for breakfast. You only turn 22 once, right?

Since I haven't posted in quite a while, I thought I'd share my favourite gifts and items I picked up on the day! I was lucky enough to receive money and the odd gift card, along with the loveliest of Lush gift sets which included items I wished I'd picked up earlier on in the day. For once I didn't receive a ridiculous amount of chocolate, with just three small items from Hotel Chocolat. Their Dark Chocolate Caramels with sea salt are to die for, along with their strawberry puddles and the new Smoothie collection. There were bits and bobs for my car, the box set of Ugly Betty - I became addicted to the show earlier this year. My Dad picked out my 'main' present all by himself, I absolutely adore Fiorelli for handbags! He decided on the Savannah in the jungle print. I'll most likely review the bag on LW in the near future as I love how it comes with it's own organiser.

I'm excited to try out the baking items my neighbour gifted me, along with my first lot of NYX items - *spoiler* I'm going to have to buy the entire Butter Gloss collection, the formula is incredible of the two I picked up. I also at long last own Fleur De Figure scent from Roger & Gallet after loving the body products for a few years. Who knew my M&S actually stocked the brand. Other items I picked up whilst shopping were a few sets of underwear & a couple real technique brushes.

Has anyone else celebrated their birthday recently? I'd love to hear what you got up to! Thank you for the birthday messages & again, apologies for the hiatus - life has been pretty hectic. Lucy xx

Father's Day with Snapfish

an image of Father's Day with Snap Fish
No matter what the occasion, buying for men can be exceptionally hard. Despite just how much you begrudgingly ask them for ideas it usually results in them not giving you a single clue as to what to buy. With Father's Day around the corner I've teamed up with SnapFish to share a couple ideas to make your Dad smile this Father's Day. If you haven't heard of SnapFish, they're an online company who specialise in personalised cards, photo prints and gifts. The amount of items on offer are increasing all the time. Don't be put off if you're not in the UK, they have international sites also, the US has an even larger selection of items. I personally can't wait until phone cases arrive, I'll definitely be whipping up a few for myself and the family.
an image of Father's Day with Snap Fish
Whilst browsing on SnapFish I was amazed at just how many gift ideas they have on offer, though it was the personalised photo mugs that I finally settled on. I decided to make two, one for my Dad and another for my Grandad. The mugs hold 11oz and are microwave + dishwasher safe. There are so many design templates, themes and embellishments to make your item unique and special. For my Dad's mug I decided to feature three photos, featuring my parents favourite photo together - ft. Harry and one each of Harry & Mollie. I added stickers, text and embellishments. If you're wondering about the whole 'number one serenader', my Dad always sings his own little songs to the dogs in the evening. Don't ask. They love it.

Now for the second mug, I decided to make it a little extra special for my Grandad. Some of you may know that we lost my Grandma towards the end of last year, my Grandad is my only remaining Grandparent. Father's Day this year will be around the same time as she was rushed into emergency surgery which gave her a few extra months with us. I decided to use three photo's of her, which I'm really impressed with how they printed considering they're pretty old. I used lyrics from one of the funeral songs - morbid? We all think it's sweet. They both loved the song. I then added a few embellishments. What do you guys think?
an image of Father's Day with Snap Fish
I then decided to create two cards for my Dad, one from myself and the other from Harry & Mollie. With so many pre-made designs, templates and blank cards to decided over, I settled on the design which features DIY Tools. My Dad is forever fixing things, especially when Harry moved in, not to mention now we have the two of them. Each Christmas we always pick him up a chocolate tool kit, to shove in his stocking. Seeing this design, I knew it would be perfect to put, from them. Inside I played around with layouts, settling on just the one photo and text. When it came to designing a card from myself I settled on a pre-made design again, though added no photo, just text - saving me from having to even write the card when it arrived. Each card arrived with it's own envelope, packaged in a extremely sturdy cardboard envelope/sleeve which was really well glued. Your cards will arrive safe and sound. Each card cost £1.99, plus delivery which included all four items at £5.97. Do check out the site, as there are SO many discounts flying around, especially in the Father's Day section.
an image of Father's Day with Snap Fish
Having tried other online, custom card websites in the past I can honestly say SnapFish is my favourite. Their site is so easy to use and their customer service is second to none. They're all so happy to help and orders are printed and shipped incredibly quick - the mugs taking no longer than the cards. There are so many deals and discounts floating around, not to mention free prints just for signing up/in. What have you picked up for your Dad, Grandad or Father Figure this year? Lucy x

Skechers Flex Appeal Review

an image of Skechers Flex Appeal Review
I wish I could be someone who absolutely adores working out or having any sort of fitness regime but I'm not. Sure I do a lot of walking, I walk my little Westie's several times a day & enjoy taking them to as many places as possible but any other fitness seems to come and go in phases. It's silly really, considering how I'm subscribed to Blogilates and Lucy Wyndham-Read, whose workouts are easily done at home, to achieve the slimmer and toned body I want.

Whilst not only needing some inspiration/push to up the exercise it's also crazy just how ridiculous I can start wearing shoes out, even my more expensive branded shoes take a battering from walking the dogs. With the warmer weather starting to appear I've obviously packed the Boots away, with sandals, flats and pump/converse starting to make their appearances. In-fact I found the most beautiful pair of white (not so white now) trainers in Next, which are a mix of converse/yeezy. Incredibly flexible, comfy and lightweight, though if I keep wearing them with everything and everywhere they'll be wrecked. SO with all this and needing a way to get myself more active (hopefully) I found Skechers Flex Appeal's on sale.
an image of Skechers Flex Appeal Review in sweet spot
an image of Skechers Flex Appeal in island style
If you're already familiar with Skechers Flex Appeal you'll know that they have such an array of colours and designs to pick over. I of course struggled to decided on just one pair, with two entering my virtual shopping basket - we can thank Demi Lovato for appearing on their ads, this definitely swayed me into purchasing. The Flex Appeal trainer is basically Skechers answer to Nike Free Runs, they're incredibly lightweight and stylish. If you're someone who struggles to find comfy footwear - especially when exercise is concerned, Flex Appeal feature Memory Foam to relieve pressure on sensitive feet and provide all day comfort. The shoes contour to most foot shapes, feature a flexible  & shock absorbing midsole/outsole, along with a breathable mesh upper.

As I couldn't settle on just one design and opted to order two, a little risky when I'd never tried the shoes on, or even seen them in person at this point. Though, having grown up wearing Skechers I was thankfully not disappointed, they've remained true to size and fit my narrow, teeny UK3 feet perfectly. My foot feels so supported and the memory foam inside is to die for - I'll no longer suffer from impractical footwear on long dog walks & if I finally get the urge to start working out more I'll have the comfiest shoes around. From walking/running with Harry, they've been incredible so far, though one pair does feel slightly smaller than the other, though both still fit just fine. I also love how Skechers still provide you with spare laces, in an alternative colour. As a child you could always bet that I'd want the other lace colour on.
an image of Skechers Flex Appeal in sweet spot
an image of Skechers Flex Appeal in island style
If you're wondering which exact pairs I own, I own the Skechers Flex Appeal in Sweet Spot - charcoal and hot pink AND Skechers Flex Appeal in Island Style (black). Island Style, feature the floral pattern in black and white, with pink touches, with the options of black or white laces. Sweet Spot are grey, with white, yellow and bright coral detailing, with both yellow and grey laces to decide over. Island Style seems to be available on quite a few retailers online, though no longer on the Skechers site itself. Sweet Spot however is currently full price at Skechers, though I ordered both pairs from M&M Direct with around a third off (give or take).

Are you a fan of the 'new look' Skechers? Or do you think they should firmly stay in the memories of our childhood? I personally love them and since owning my two pairs I've noticed SO many others wearing various styles. Lucy xx
